Description
After his first visit to Haiti, Father Frechette knew that he needed more skills to help the people there, so he studied medicine, obtaining a medical degree and returning to create the St. Luke Foundation. The foundation provides education, healthcare, and dignified humanitarian outreach to over 150,000 Haitians each year. St. Luke’s relies on Haitian leadership. For his work, Father Frechette is the winner of the 2012 Opus Prize, an annual faith-based humanitarian award that recognizes unsung heroes. Recipients of the $1,000,000 Opus Prize combine an entrepreneurial spirit with an abiding faith to address global issues such as poverty, illiteracy, hunger, disease, and injustice. This event is part of Marquette University Mission Week 2013, The World Is Our Home, and is cosponsored by the Law School and the College of Health Sciences.
