On the Issues: Dale Ho, Director of the American Civil Liberties Union’s Voting Rights Project

Dale Ho supervises the ACLU’s voting rights litigation nationwide, with cases in more than a dozen states, including Wisconsin: the state’s new law requiring photo identification at the polls was challenged by the ACLU in 2011. The law was struck down by a federal court but was upheld by an appeals court last fall, before the ACLU persuaded the U.S. Supreme Court to put the law on hold while the Court considered whether to take the case (which it has now declined to do). Ho will discuss his organization's work in Wisconsin as well as its challenge of new voting laws in other states, litigation he says is dedicated to “defending the freedom of all Americans to exercise the most fundamental right in our democracy—the right to vote.” Ho is an adjunct professor law at Brooklyn Law School and the NYU School of Law, and has published more than half a dozen academic articles on issues such as redistricting and voting rights. He is a graduate of Yale Law School and Princeton University.
